Guided Ice-Fishing Q & A

Q: What does a guided ice-fishing trip look like?

A: Ice-fishing takes place from December through March. You will meet your guide at a specified location, where they will take you to the ice and guide you on your trip. You will be in a thermal ice fishing hut that is heated and there will be quality fishing equipment, gear, and electronics available for you to use. On full-day trips and extended-day trips, lunch is included.

Q: What should I bring and what is provided?

A: Your guide will provide all that you will need to catch fish, stay warm, and will provide you with safety gear while you are on your trip.

You will need to bring layers of warm clothing that cover all of your body: insulated boots, wool socks, long underwear, pants, snow pants or bibs, a jacket, an insulated windbreaker, gloves, and a warm hat. Consider what you will need to start your day before the sun comes up in the middle of winter.

Other items you should consider are sunglasses, sunscreen, chapstick, extra socks, and hot packs for your toes and hands.

Q: How do you ensure my safety on the ice?

A: Jax follows a very strict safety protocol when guiding on the ice:

1) Stay on more than 4” of clear, hard, ice

2) Nowhere near open water, pressure ridges, or slush-covered ice

3) Provide everyone with ice cleats and safety picks

4) Guides are equipped with a 50’ safety rope, an emergency life-jacket, and are trained for emergency situations on the ice

Q: Are you required to have insurance?

A: Jax Outdoors LLC is fully insured on ice-fishing, wade-fishing, and drift-boat fishing trips and is required to provide proof of insurance to permitting agencies in order to conduct business on public lands.

Q: Do you require groups to sign a release waiver?

A: Yes. Jax Outdoors LLC has a release of liability waiver which all members of the group are required to complete prior to your trip. Minors will need a parent or guardian to complete the release of liability.
